Macroscopic Features |
Receptacles develop to form a pseudocarp. Inverse egg-like shape; externally reddish-yellow or reddish-brown, with raised brown spots, which are the remnants of fallen hair thorns. Apex has disc-like remnants of calyx, center has yellow base of style, bottom is gradually pointy. Hard texture. After being cut open, inner surface of receptacle has numerous hard small achenes, which have pale yellow fuzz. faint odor, sweet taste, slightly astringent. |
