Macroscopic Features |
Irregular flat spherical or conical shape, externally yellowish-brown to brown. About 0.7~1.5cm tall, 0.5~1cm diameter. base is round and indented, with root scars, apex is suddenly pointed, one side has longitudinal groove from the base towards apex. Externally yellowish-white, smooth. Hard texture, slightly horn-like, horizontal cut surface is yellowish-white, powdery. faint odor, tasteless, with sticky taste. |

Clears heat, resolves toxin, resolves phlegm, disperses stasis. Apply to throat swelling pain, scrofula, abscess, swelling sore, postpartum stasis. |
Technical Terms |
‘Jade belt around the waist’: This refers to the 2~3slightly raised ring-like nodes that wrap around the center of shan ci gu medicinal material, which look similar to a belt. It is also called ‘yu dai chan yao(jade belt tied around the waist)’, ‘yao dai(belt)’ or ‘yao gu(waist hoop)’. |
Remark |
Common Cuckooorchis (Cremastra appendiculata) is listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix II. Its trade is allowed but subject to licensing controls. |
