Description Perennial herbs. Has strong odour. Bulb large, spherical, wrapped by red involucra, leaves cylindrical, hollow, 25-50cm long, diameter 1-1.5cm; green, with white powder. Scapes up to 1cm, cylindrical, hollow; umbels spherical, numerous flowers, dense. Peduncles long; flowers stellate expanded, green-white, tepals 6, oblong; filaments longer than perianths, inner layer whorled base extremely expanded, outer layer whorled basiconic. Capsules, chambers cracked at the back, with numerous seeds. Seeds black, flat. Flowering: June to July.
Distribution Cultivated nationwide. Distributed in West Asia and etc. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in South-central China.
Part Used Bulb.
Harvest & Processing Excavated in June. Well washed and sun-dried. Flechtened and stored when leaves are almost dried.
Chemistry Mainly contains sulfur compounds.
Pharmacology Detoxifying, parasite-expelling and blood-fat-lowering.
Properties & Actions Pungent, sweet, warm.Tonifying the stomach and regulating qi-flowing, detoxicating and destroying parasites.
Indications & Usage The fresh herb is ground into a pulpy preparation, treating wounds, ulcers and trichomonal vaginitis.Oral administration: 30-120g. External application: appropriate amount.
Examples Trichomonas vaginitis: fresh onion and celery of equal amounts. Mash into mud, take juice, add vinegar, and dip some to plug into vagina before sleeping, and pick out in the next morning.
