Description |
Annual herbs, 20-90cm tall. Stem erect, stout, usually red, ribbed, glabrous. Leaves alternate, oval-oblong, 5-10cm long, 2-6cm wide, apex acuminate or long-pointed, base narrowly wedge-shaped, entire. Inflorescences acrogenous, flat comb shaped, with many flowers under middle part, colours of flowers various and radiantly beautiful, purple, red, pink, yellow or variegated; bracts of florets 3, dry membranous; tepals 5, lanceolate, about 5mm long, apex acuminate or aristiform-pointed, dry membranous and shiny; stamens 5, lower part of filaments connated into a cup-shape; ovary superior, 1 chamber; style slender, stigma 2 lobed. Utricles oval, operculum lobed, with many oblate black seeds. Flowering: August to October, fruiting: September to October. |

Indications & Usage |
Hemorrhoid bleeding during pregnancy. Dysentery with red and white feces, hematemesis, coughing up blood, bloody stranguria, acute vaginal bleeding, leucorrhea with red and white discharge.Oral administration: decocting, 7.5-15g; or made as pills or powders. External application: decocted for fumigating the affected parts. |
Examples |
1. Treat profuse uterine bleeding: flos semen, omato nipponlily root, tuachyranthis radix. 2. Treat hemorrhage due to prolapse of hemorrhoids, red-white dysentery, acute vaginal bleeding, leukorrhea with reddish discharge. 3. Treat incessant hematemesis: white flos semen, immerse and cook in vinegar 7 times, and grind into powder. Swallow 2 qian with hot liquor each time. |
