Description |
Machaka, 1-3m high, aromatic; bark dark grey, with many prickles, hairless. Singular pinnately compound leaf, alternate; leaflets 15-21, opposite or nearly opposite, asymmetric ovate to elliptic lanceolate, 1-3.5cm long, 0.5-1cm wide; main vein sinks, lateral vein not distinct; rachis with narrow wing, with sparse and slight upward small prickles. Semi-ovary shaped panicle, basidixed, 3-8cm long; flower small and plentiful, cyan, unisexual, 5; perianth clearly divided into calyx and petals, arranged in two arrays; a dark glandular dot on the top of male flower stamen connectivum, degenerated carpel thin and small, 2-3 lobed on the top; male flower carpel 3, without ovary stipe, stigma capitate. Follicle surface grass green, yellowish green to dark green, with fine wrinkles, dark glandular dot, punctiformly sunk, with beak like tine on the tip. Flowering: August to September, Fruiting: October to November. |

Growing in forest margins, thickets or by rocks of slopes. Can be cultivated. Distributed in Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and etc. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Northeast China, Jiangsu, Guangdong and etc. |

Mature fruit peel: used for cold and pain of stomach and abdomen, vomiting and diarrhea, enterozoic abdominalgia, ascariasis, externally applied to treat eczema and pruritus. Seeds: used for edema and tumescence, dyspnea due to phlegm and retained fluid.Mature pericarp: oral administration: decocting, 3-6g, or made as pills or powders. External application: appropriate amount, decocted for washing or mouth rinse; or powdered for applying. Not use in cases of excess fire due to yin deficiency. Mature fruit peel: Wind toxin and edema of hand feet: fresh bunge pricklyash powder, salt powder of equal amount. Prepare with vinegar, and apply externally. Seed: Long term edema, abdomen as large as large drum: bunge pricklyash seed (submerged into water), pick out and stew, pestle until it becomes a paste, swallow a small spoon with liquor. |
