Description |
Annual herbs, plant 30-100cm tall. Single stem or with branches, erect, whole plant smooth and glabrous, leaves alternate, lanceolate or oval, 4.5-15cm long, entire, with petioles. Flowers acrogenous or axillary, spikes lanceolate or erect cylindrical, monoecious, inflorescences 5-8cm long, florets 0.6cm long, flowers white or purple red, stamens five, connated into a cup-shape at the base, wrapped into ovary, fruits are utricles, spherical, horizontally-lobed after ripening, 3-4mm long, seeds black and shiny, parvules, kidney-shaped round. Flowering: May to July, fruiting: August to September. |
Distribution |
Growing in the wilds, roadsides, ravine, bench lands and loose soil like sand dune, etc. Distributed in most parts of China. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Hubei, Gansu and Sichuan. |

Harvested from Aug-Oct, cut the aboveground parts or spica, sun-dried; rub out seeds, removed impurities and sun-dried. |

Anti-bacterial, intraocular-tension-lowering. |

Indications & Usage |
Swelling pain induced by conjunctival congestion, nephelium and cataract, hypertension, epistaxis, skin itching due to wind-heat, scabies and lepra.Oral administration: decocting, 15-25g. |
