Description |
Perennial herb, 10-30cm tall, tender part covered by sparse long soft hairs, purplish red. Stem 4 angled, stolon rhizogenic on the ground. Leaf opposite; petiole covered by long soft hairs; lamina heart shaped or nearly kidney shaped, 1.8-2.6cm long, 2-3cm wide, tip suddenly sharpened or blunt, margin with crenations, both surfaces covered by soft hairs or hard hairs. Verticillaster generally with 2 flowers; bractlet linear, 4mm long, covered by tricholoma; calyx tubular, 9-11mm long, exteriorly covered by long soft hairs, inner surface slightly covered by soft hairs, calyx teeth 5, 3 tooth in upper lip comparatively long, with tricholoma; corolla blue or purple, lower lip with deep coloured spots, corolla tube campanulate, with long and short two types, the one with long tube 1.7-2.23cm long, the one with short tube 1-1.4cm long; stamens 4, hidden inside, back pair comparatively long, anther with 3 ventricles; ovary 4 lobed, style slightly stretching out, stigma with 2 lobes; flower disc cup shaped. Nutlet long circular ovate, about 1.5mm long, deeply brown. Flowering: April to May; fruiting: May to June. |

Distribution |
Growing in dank places of forest edges, thin forests at altitude 50-2,000m, on grasslands or river beaches, etc. Distributed in all parts of China except Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in all parts of China. |

Pyretic stranguria and stranguria caused by urinary stone, jaundice with damp-heat pathogen, anthracia and swelling pain, injury from fall.Oral administration: decocting, 15-30g; or made as medicinal liquor, or extracted juice. External application: appropriate amount, triturated for application or extracted juice for application. |
