Description |
Subshrub. Tuberous root spindly, about 1cm thick. Stem upright, 30-60cm high, unbranched, with thin longitudinal ridges. Leaf thinly coriaceous, generally 3-4 pieces whorled, rarely 5 or 2 pieces, ovate elliptic or ovate lanceolate, 3.5-6cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, tip short and pointed or sharp and pointed, basal part wedge shaped, with short stipe or nearly sessile. Flower singularly axillary, generally grown from the scale axil in the lower part of stem; scale lanceolate, about 8mm long; anthocaulus stretching out, about 1cm long, middle and upper parts with nodes; flower obliquely ascending or upright; tepal 1-1.5cm long, 2-3mm wide, light green; stamen purplish red; filament short; anther about 3.5mm long, its attachment in the apex equal to or slightly shorter than anther in length, the extension of connectivum about 2 times of anther in length; ovary triangular ovate. Capsule containing several seeds. Flowering: March to May; fruiting: June to July. |

1. Treat cough: fresh ginger juice, stemona juice, mix and decoct, take 2 he. 2. Treat cough lingering for 30 years: stemona root 20 jin. Pestle and collect juice, decoct to syrup. Swallow a small spoonful 3 times a day. 3. Treat infantile whooping cough: honey fried stemona, common selfheal 9g each. Decoct in water and swallow. |
