Description |
Perennial herb, crawler rhizome grows in sludge, stem fasciculate, out of water level, linear, semi-cylindrical; flower unisexual, plentiful and tiny, gathered into cylindric spikes, divided into thin and thick two segments, the thin one superior, which is male flower, the thick one inferior, which is male flower, with a extremely short axis between the thin and thick, stamen with hairs around, filament short, ovary with 1 ventricle, fruit thin and small, seed suspended. |

Indications & Usage |
Amenorrhea and stomachache, postpartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis, fall injuries and blood contusion, pyocutaneous disease and swelling, hematemesis, non-traumatic hemorrhage, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, bloody diarrhea, hematuria, hematodiarrhoea, leukorrhea, congenital deformity of the tongue, sore mouth, impaction of cerumen and pus, hemorrhage from ear, damp itching in the private parts.Oral administration: decocting, 7.5-15g; or made as pills or powders. External application: powdered for dusting or applied after mixed with fluid. |

Examples |
1. Treat hypermenorrhea, metrostaxis: water cattail 3 liang (slightly stir-fried), bone fossil of big mammals 2.5 liang, Artemisia leaf 1 liang. For the above three drugs, pestle and sieve, grind into a powder, prepare honey pills as large as firmianae semen. Take 20 pills each time, decoct, swallow with rice water, or swallow with Artemisia leaf decoction, and swallow 2 times a day. 2. Treat menolipsis after childbirth: water cattail 3 liang. Add into water 3 sheng, decoct until reduce to 1 sheng, and swallow. 3. Treat lochia after childbirth, vexation, abdominal fullness, coma or ravings, dyspnea: dried lotus leaves (stir fried), suffruticosa peony bark, corydalis tuber, fresh dried rehmannia, ural licorice (stir fried) 3 fen each, water cattail (fresh) 2 liang. Grind the above drugs into coarse powder. Take 2 qian each time, add into one cup of water, add a little honey, decoct until reduced to 7 fen, remove residues, warm up and swallow at any time. |
