Description |
Arbor, up to 30m tall, 60-100cm in DBH; bark greyish brown, reddish brown or dark brown, lobed into strips, falling off; bough extending, annual branch green or light yellowish green, turning greenish yellow or light reddish brown in autumn, biennial and triennial branches yellowish brown, light reddish brown or greyish brown; winter bud yellowish brown, light brown or reddish brown, glossy, bud scale like triangular ovate, dorsal part without ridge or with longitudinal ridges, falling off or a few persistent in the basal part of branchlet. Leaf usually wide and long, mostly curved falcate, generally 2-3.5(-4.5)cm long, 3-4(-5)mm wide, upper part usually gradually narrowed, tip gradually pointed, middle vein band on lower surface without mastoid process, or locally with pieces of or sparsely distributed corneous mastoid process, or both sides of the middle vein band adjacent to stomatal band with one to several corneous mastoid processes, middle vein band clear and visible, its color and luster different from that of stomatal band, being light yellowish green or green, the green band broad and distinct; seed generally big, slightly flat, mostly invert orbicularovate, upper part comparatively broad, rarely columnar square round, 7-8mm long, 5mm in diameter, hilum usually elliptic. |

Growing in many provinces at altitude below 1,000-1,200m. Distributed in South Anhui, Zhejiang, Taiwan, Fujian, Jiangxi, North Guangdong, North and Northeast Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, West Henan, South Shaanxi, South Gansu, Sichuan, Guizhou and Northeast Yunnan. Vertical distribution, generally lower than tasux chinensis. |
