Description |
Perennial herb. Fibrous root elongated and clustered, numerous. Stems spread out, sloping upward, 20-50cm high, lower nodes prostrate rooting, much branched, densely white or pale yellow pilose. Basal leaves similar to stem leaves, ternately compound leaves; leaf blades round reniform to broadly ovate, 2-5cm long, 3-6cm wide, base cordate, central lobule broadly ovate or rhombic ovate, 3 lobed to more parted, margin serrate, petiolule length 1-5mm, well spread pilose; lateral leaflets unequally 2 lobed, dorsal suface or both surfaces sparsely pilose; petiole length 2-5cm, densely spread pilose, base broadened into brown, membranous wide sheath, clasping. Flowers and leaves opposite, diameter 1.2-1.8cm; pedicels 3-8cm long, densely pilose; sepals narrowly ovate, outside with fluff, reflexed downward at flowering period, delayed caducous; Petals 5, yellow or above turn white, narrowly obovate to elliptic, length 6-10mm, width 3-5mm, with 5-9 dark venation, lower gradually narrows to become long claws, small scales of nectary at base of claws; stamens more than 20, anthers ca. 2mm long; receptacle thick and short, with dense white soft hair; carpels numerous. Achenes flattened, glabrous, margin with wide edge of about 0.4mm wide, beak ca. 1mm, conical excurved. Flowering, fruiting: May to October. |

Growing on forest margins of hill-slopes at altitude 300-2,500m and on wet plains. Distributed in Sichuan, East Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shaanxi, Gansu and etc. Also distributed in Japan. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shaanxi, Gansu and etc. |

Examples |
1. Stopping malaria: pestle siebold buttercup herb branches and leaves onto the pulse (internal side of forearm connecting to wrist), left for males and right for females, or wrap vital gate, but should be matted with cloth, and should not be wrapped too long. 2. Snake bites: an appropriate amount of shuilacai leaves, chew and apply onto the lesions (with exit left) ; take sulfur grundum (grind into a powder) 3g, infuse into water 1 cup and swallow; chew shuilacai leaves, swallow with cold water and swallow, if no yellow fluid is observed. |
