Description |
Shrub, erect, up to one meter high. Horsetail shape, almost no leaves. Glabrous. Stems tetragonal, branches slender and whorled, apex pendulous. Leaves small, scattered; leaf blade oblong or oblong-ovate, length less than 1.5cm, most of those on the branches degenerated to become scales. Thyrses narrow, small cymes with flowers 1-3; peduncle up to 3cm long, bracts subulate; pedicels near 1cm long; calyx small, light green, 2-3mm long, more than half 5 parted, lobes ovate-triangular, acute, imbricately arranged; corolla bright red, ca. 2.5cm long, with long tube, inconspicuously bilabiate, upper lip 2 lobed, lobes ovate or long ovate, ca. 3mm long, lower lip 3 cleft; stamens 4, included, staminodes small, located at the back of base of corolla tube. Capsule globose, septicidal. Flowering: April to July. |
