Description |
Annual parasitic twining herbs. Stem succulent, 1-2mm in diameter, yellow or red stem often with purple-red strumose spots, glabrous, multi-branched, no leaves. Inflorescence spike-like, up to 3cm long, base often multi-branched; bracts and bractlets lepodoid; calyx bowl-shaped, fleshy, 5 lobed almost near the base, back side often with purple-red strumose protuberances; corolla campanulate, pink or green white, apex 5 lobed; stamens 5; scales 5; style simple, stigma 2 lobed. Capsules ovate, about 5mm long; seeds 1-2 pieces, about 2-2.5mm long, seed coat yellow to yellow brown. Flowering: August to October, fruiting: September to November. |

Indications & Usage |
Cold pain in the waist and knees, emissions, impotence, premature ejaculation, sterility, diabetes; stranguria with turbid urine, anischuria, blurred vision and tinnitus, restless fetal movements, miscarriage, diarrhea.Oral administration: decocting, 6-15g; made as pills or powders. External application: appropriate amount, stir-heated and powdered for application. |
Examples |
1. Treat lumbago: China dodder (immerse in liquor), euconmmia (remove peel, stir-fried, cut off the filament) in equal amounts. Grind into a fine powder, and prepare pills with Chinese yam as large as firmianae semen. Take 50 pills each time with salty liquor or soup. 2. Treat waist and knee pain due to accumulation of pathogenic cold in males, or refractory numbness and weakness: Chinese dodder herb (washed) 1 liang, two-toothed achyranthes 1 liang. Immerse in liquor for 5 days, dry under the sun, grind into a powder, add a little mellow wine into the formerly immersed liquor as paste, and prepare pills as large as firmianae semen. Swallow 29 pills with liquor on empty stomach. 3. Treat impairment of hepatic qi caused by overstrain, dark vision: China dodder 2 liang. Immerse in liquor for 3 days, dry under the sun, pestle and sieve, and grind into a powder, prepare pills with egg white as large as firmianae semen. Take 30 pills with warm liquor on empty stomach. |
