Description Perennial root herb. Bulbus egg shaped, about 2.5cm in diameter, with a distinct neck. Leaves narrow linear, fleshy, bright green, 20-30cm long, 2-4mm wide. Anthocaulus hollow; single flower grows on the top of floral axis, with a brownish red spathe shaped phyllary below, 2 lubus in the tip of phyllary; peduncle about 1cm long; flower white, exterior is light red, almost no perianth tube, perianth 6, 3-5cm long, usually small scale near laryngeal part; stamens 6, about 1/2 of perianth in length; style thin and long, head with 3 indistinct lubus. Capsule nearly ball shaped, about 1.2cm in diameter, 3-valved; seeds black, flat. Flowering: Autumn.
Distribution Introduced for cultivation in the southern parts of China. Distributed in Guangdong, Fujian and etc.
Part Used Medical part: whole plant. Chinese name: Ganfengcao.
Harvest & Processing Can be harvested throughout the year, washed, mostly used fresh.
Chemistry Whole plant contains alkaloids like lycorine, pretazettine, hsemanthidine and attention, etc. Pedals contain rutin.
Pharmacology Antivirotic and anti-tumors, uterus-exciting, anti-inflammatory and emetic, etc.
Properties & Actions Sweet, neutral.Suppressing hyperactive liver and pathogenic wind.
Indications & Usage Infantile frightened epilepsy, epilepsy, tetanus.Oral administration: decocting, 3-4 herbs; or extracted juice. External application: appropriate amount, smashed for applying.
Examples Treat infantile acute convulsion: fresh autumn zephyrlily herb 3-qian, decoct in water, prepare with crystal sugar and swallow; take fresh autumn zephyrlily herb 3-4 qian, add salt 1-2 qian, pestle, divide into 2 pills, stick onto left and right temples, fix and cover with gauze.
