Description |
Perennial evergreen herbs, 40-70cm tall. Rhizome crab-shaped, with internodes, internodes on the upper are tighter. Simple leaves alternate; petioles 5-20cm long, middle part extend to sheath; leaves dark-green, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 15-25cm long, 10-13cm wide, apex with 2cm long gradual tip, base blunt or wide cuneate, lateral veins 4-5 pairs, surface usually concave, back bulging. Inflorescence axillary, inflorescent stems 10-12.5cm long; peduncles 6-7cm long, acrogenous white-pale yellow spathe; cylindrical spadix hidden in spathe, countless small flowers borne on the inflorescences, flowers diclinous polygamy; male inflorescences above, female inflorescences below, male inflorescences and female inflorescences closely followed; flowers without perianth; stamens 2, apex square, each chamber of anthers with 2 (-1) round top hole; pistil nearly spherical, upper part shrinks to become short style, stigma discoidal. Berry green to yellow-red, oblong, ca. 2cm long, 8mm thick, top with persistent stigma. Seed 1, 1.7cm long. Flowering: May. Fruiting: October to November. |

Indications & Usage |
Used for swelling and pain in the throat, diphtheria, cough with lung heat, hematemesis, pyretic toxicity and hemafecia, pyocutaneous disease and swelling, bites by snakes and dogs.Oral administration: decocting, 6-15g. External application: appropriate amount, smashed to extract juice for gargling; powdered; decocted for washing. Toxic; take care when using orally. |
