Description Woody herbs or subshrubs. Young branches covered with dense curly hairs. Upper leaves nearly margin entire; coarse hairs above leaves, hairs or with glands below leaves; middle leaves oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 2-5.5cm long, base gradually narrows or suddenly narrow, petioles short, margin entire or upper part with sparsely small cusp-shaped serration; lower leaves spoon-shaped-oblong, up to 10cm, upper part with sparse serration. Capitulums diameter 1.5-2cm, arranged to conic-corymbose on branch end, or solitary on short branches, peduncles short; bracts dense on peduncle end, extremely fine; involucres inverted-basiconic, 5-7mm long, involucral bracts imbricately arranged, 4-7 layers, outside layer ovate, inside layer oblong-lanceolate, back or upper part with dense hairs, margin with tricholoma, dry membranous; ligulate flower tube 3mm long, tongues white, 5mm long; tubular flower 6mm long, tube 3mm long, with micro-hairs, lobes up to 2mm; pappus 1 layer, white, with micro coarse hairs. Achenes slightly flat, narrow oblong, with dense hairs, sometimes with ribs on both sides. Flowering: July to October; fruiting: August to November.
Distribution Growing in mountain slopes, roadsides, grasslands, and on sandy lands. Distributed in South Jiangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, East Hunan, East and North Guangdong, East Guangxi.
Part Used Medical part: entire plant and roots.
Harvest & Processing Collected in summer and autumn, cut into segments, sun-dried or used fresh.
Properties & Actions Root: taste bitter, warm in nature.Entire plant: clearing heat, detoxifying, arresting bleeding, promoting tissue regeneration, expelling parasites. Root: warming lung and checking cough.
Indications & Usage Whole herb: mainly used for cold. Root: mainy used for cough and excessive phlegm.Internal: decocting, 9-15g. External: fresh used, triturated for application.
