Description |
Perennial herbs, up to 1m tall, the whole plant with specific irritant taste. Base wooden, roots fleshy, several clustered, skin yellowish white. Stem erect, young part with dense white long hairs and blister-like raised glandular dots. Odd pinnate compound leaves alternate; with petioles; rachis with narrow wings, leaflets 9-13 pieces, sessile, ovate to elliptic, 3-9cm long, 2-4cm wide, apex acute, base broad cuneate, margin serrulate, surface with dense glandular dots, leaves hairy along the veins, especially much more in the back, fall off until fruiting, nearly smooth. Raceme acrogenous; rachis and pedicel with mixed white pubescence and black glandular hairs; 1 bar-shaped bract at the base of pedicel; flowers large, pink and with purple red lines; sepals 5, persistent; petals 5, oblanceolate or oblong, 2-2.5cm long, base thinner and handle-shaped; stamens 10, extending outside the petals; pistil ovary superior, 5 chambers. Capsules, dense brown-black glandular dots and white pubescence, 5 lobed when mature, apex of each piece with a needle. Seeds 2-3, black, nearly circular, about 3mm in diameter. Flowering: April to May. Fruiting: May to June. |
Distribution |
Growing in soil slopes and thickets. Can be cultivated. Distributed in Northeast China, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and etc. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong and etc. |

Indications & Usage |
Used for sores with damp-heat pathogen, dripping wetness of yellow fluids, eczema, bastard measles, scabies and ringworm, rheumatic pyretic arthralgia, jaundice and dark urine.Oral administration: decocting, 5-15g; or made as pills or powders. External application: appropriate amount, decocted for washing or powdered for application. Not using in cases of deficiency -cold. |
Examples |
1. Xianhuang: densefruit dittanypi, virgate wormwood herb in equal amounts. Decoct in 2 cups of water and swallow, 2 times a day. 2. Puerperal cold stroke, no other drugs for deficient people: densefruit dittany peel 90g. Decoct in 3 sheng water and cook to 1 sheng, swallow in several times. Or decoct in one part liquor and one part water. |
