10 Global Initiatives 環宇新猷 Global Initiatives 環宇新猷 Cultural Exchange with Norwegian Students 與挪威學生進行文化交流 The China Studies Programme hosted a cultural exchange event on 17 February 2016 with NLA University College (Norway) to provide international exposure for 21 China Studies students who gained an exciting and fruitful intercultural experience with their Norwegian counterparts. Prof. Adrian J. Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences Faculty, extended a warm welcome to the guests from Norway and exchanged souvenirs with Dr. Ole Johannes Kaland, the NLA representative. After an ice-breaking game, students from both sides got involved in hot discussion on traditional customs and myths, such as stories of the lunar new year/Christmas, love stories and dragon legends. They also taught each other to sing some well-known traditional songs in their own languages. At the last session, students introduced their place of origin with postcards and exchanged gifts and postcards. 國研究課程於2016年2月17日舉辦「文化交流之 日夜」，來自挪威NS學院的大學生與21位中研同 學互相交流兩地文化，一眾師生踴躍參與其中。活動由社會 科學院院長貝力行教授致歡迎辭揭開序幕，雙方老師交換紀 念品，中研同學精心設計了破冰遊戲，與挪威學生打成一 片。及後同學圍繞各自的傳統節日、神話、愛情故事等展開 分組討論，並分享兩地的傳統歌曲。最終，大家互相交換明 信片和小禮物，滿載而歸！小 First of its Kind in Hong Kong - The Asia-Pacific Model European Union 香港首辦亞太區模擬歐盟 The Asia-Pacific Model European Union (APMEU) is a two-day regional academic event which aims to enhance students' knowledge about the European Union (EU), its decision-making processes and role in different global issues. The APMEU was held successfully on 16-17 April 2016 at HKBU, jointly organised by the European Union Academic Programme (EUAP) Hong Kong and EUAP Macao, in association with the Office of European Union to Hong Kong and Macao. It was the first time that this prestigious event was held in Hong Kong on a regional level, inviting 24 outstanding students from ten universities in eight cities, including Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok), Canterbury University (New Zealand), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Yonsei University (Seoul), Fudan University (Shanghai) and National University of Taiwan (Taipei}. 亞太地區模擬歐盟於2016年4月16至17日假香港 浸會大學舉行，這是一個為期兩天的地區學術活動， 旨在加強學生對歐盟的認識，並讓他們了解其決策過程及歐 盟如何在各全球議題中扮演不同的角色。是次計劃由香港及 澳門歐盟學術計劃合辦•並由歐盟駐香港及澳門辦事處協 辦。模擬歐盟計劃向來在國際間享負盛名，是次活動首次在 香港舉辦，並邀請了 24位來自八個城市的大學生參加，包 括曼谷朱拉隆功大學、紐西蘭坎特伯大學、新加坡南洋理工 大學、首爾延世大學、上海復旦大學及台灣國立大學等十間 大學。
11 Global Initiatives 環宇新猷 Social Work Academic Exchange Activities 社會工作系學術交流活動 With National University of Ireland Maynooth 愛爾蘭國立梅努斯大學 rof. Anastasia Crickley, former Head of the Department of Applied UH Social Studies, National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUI), visited the Department of Social Work (SOWK) from 25 February to 2 March 2016. She plays an active role in international and regional platforms on human rights and community development. During her stay, she delivered a public lecture entitled "Human Rights Advocacy at the UN: The European Refugee Crisis11. There were over 40 participants, not only students and faculty members from HKBU, but also scholars from other local universities and community workers. In addition, Prof. Crickley signed an addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding on academic exchange between NUI and HKBU. She also had a meeting with members of the Fieldwork Committee and prospective students who are applying for placements in Ireland, and delivered a workshop on gender and community development. Community workers from NGOs were eager to seek her advice and she kindly made two community visits to exchange ideas about community participation and empowerment with organisers and residents. The visit was supported by the Scholarship of Exchange Programmes between Springfield College and HKBU. Dr. Kokaliari delivered a public lecture on "Understanding Non-Suicidal Injury and its Differentiation to Suicide: A Global View" on 10 March 2016. They were fully engaged in their week-long visit with a variety of activities, which included an exchange session with faculty members on social work in the US, two class visits and visits to mental health, elderly and childcare service units. Kendi's eye-opening book traces the evolution of racist and anti-racist ideas in America from the early days of colonisation until late in the twentieth century. The other is far outside my own field of research but is highly compelling - Mary Beard's SPQR:A History of Ancient Rome (2016). In addition to providing an account of the rise of the Roman republic and empire, Beard explains how historians interpret sources and make arguments about the past. 14 Transdisciplinary Research 跨學科研究 Research on the Functional Fitness of Older Adults 長者功能性體適能研究 The Department of Physical Education (PE) conducted a study on the functional fitness of older adults in Hong Kong by inviting over 900 participants, aged between 65 and 84, and dividing them into eight groups according to gender and age. Various tests were done to collect data on their upper- and lower-extremity muscle strength, upper- and lower-body flexibility, agility, balance and aerobic endurance. The results showed that Hong Kong older adults have better lower-extremity muscle strength but perform worse than older adults in the US in overall functional fitness, including upper- and lower-body flexibility, upper-extremity muscle strength and agility/balance. In addition, men demonstrated lower lower-body flexibility and aerobic endurance. The results were published in the international journal Archives of Gerontotogy and Geriatrics. The results showed that both light volleyball and rouliqiu can improve older adufts' lower-extremity muscle strength and endurance, and agility/balance, and increase their enjoyment of physical activity. Older adults who play light volleyball showed better aerobic endurance and upper-extremity muscle strength. Neither exercise led to significant improvement in flexibility or upper-extremity muscle endurance. Dr. Carman Leung, Lecturer of PE, said that light vollsyball and rouliqiu are great exercises to promote in society as they can improve the functional fitness of older adults, and are particularly useful for strengthening muscles to help prevent falls. Prof. Chung Pak Kwong, Head of PE and leader of the project, said that an unsatisfactory percentage of older adults in Hong Kong have a habit of regular exercise. 19 Community Engagement 社區參與 Project on "A Narrative Journey with Parents Whose Children Have Special Educational Needs" 「愛•敘•同行」計劃 Dr. Angela Tsun, Director and Dr. Sharon Leung, Associate Director of the Centre for Youth Research and Practice conducted a knowledge-transfer project on "A Narrative Journey with Parents whose Children Have Special Educational Needs". They organised four workshops and group supervisions to equip social workers of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong with the knowledge and skills of narrative therapy. Armed with this training, they conducted parent support groups in four districts in Hong Kong to provide parents with a platform to share knowledge and skills on how best to manage challenges common to special educational needs (SEN) children. A sharing session entitled "Life, Narrative and Everything Else ■■■" was successfully run on 31 January 2016. It was well attended by about 200 participants including social workers, students, teachers and SEN parents. A report was released at a press conference held on 17 March 2016. The representatives from the CASR delivered the findings of the study and proposed possible solutions and recommendations for the light pollution issue. 20 Community Engagement 社區參與 Intergenerational Learning Community Project: "Promoting Positive Youth Development through School-University-Elderly Learning Community" 跨代學習社群項目一「長幼同行成長路」計劃 Prof. Atara Sivan, Head, and Prof. Vicky Tam, Associate Head, Department of Education Studies (EDUC), received a HK$1.9 million grant for their Quality Education Fund (QEF) project entitled "Promoting Positive Youth Development through SchoobUniversity-Elderly Learning Community". The opening ceremony was held on 11 November 2016. This two-year project aims to enhance students' knowledge and skills and to cultivate their sense of belonging and positive social values through collaborative intergenerational engagement in issues of healthy living and well-being. It involves active participation of HKBU students and staff, secondary school students and teachers, and older adults in the community. Given the keen competition for QEF grants, Prof. Sivan and Prof. Tam view the success of their application as recognition from the government of the intergenerational learning community model developed at HKBU. They regard it as a great opportunity to further enhance HKBU's mission of whole-person education and wish to thank the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University for their support, making this important and invaluable undertaking possible. 育學系系主任蘇秀冠教授及副系主任譚肖芸教授獲 優質教育基金撥款港幣190萬元推動名為「長幼同 行成長路」計劃，啟動儀式於2016年11月11日舉行。這 個為期兩年的項目，由浸大學生、教職員、中學生、教師及 長者積極參與，透過一系列跨代參與的健康生活項目，以推 動青少年發展、培育其歸屬感及正面的社會價值觀。 優質教育基金申請競爭激烈，蘇教授及譚教授認為能夠成功 爭取撥款，不但是政府肯定浸大在推展跨代學習社群的成 就，更是一個强化浸大全人教育理念的難得機會。她們感謝 社會科學院及大學的大力支持，使計劃得以實踐。⑥ Exhibition on HCity Smart Development in Europe: Vienna11 「香港一維也納對話：維也納智慧城市一歐洲都市發展新視野」展覧 The opening ceremony of the exhibition on "City Smart Development in Europe: Vienna" was officially held on 3 November 2016 at City Gallery. Organised by the European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong and coorganised with the Austrian Consulate General and City Gallery, the exhibition presented a vision of smart development, strategic planning and liveability in the city of Vienna. The ceremony was attended by over 150 participants from the HKSAR government, diplomatic bodies, the business community, civil society and academia. It showcased the main themes and projects of the Smart City Wien Framework Strategy 2014-2050, with a focus on issues comparable to the Hong Kong situation in six thematic dimensions: smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living and smart government. It was hosted until 31 January 2017 and round-table discussions and seminars were held with experts and experienced practitioners from Vienna and Hong Kong. 香港一維也納對話：維也納智慧城市一歐洲都市 發展新視野」展覽開幕禮在286年11月3日於 中環展城館舉行。展覽由香港歐盟學術計劃主辦、奧地 利駐香港及澳門總領事館及展城館合辦，展示了智慧 發展的願景、策略性規劃及維也納城的宜居度♦開 幕典禮吸引了大約150名來自政府、學界和商界| 人士以及學生出席。展覽展出了有關「智慧城市維। 也納架構策略2014-2050」的主題及項目，與香港的 情況可以對照的六個議題包括智慧經濟'智慧交通、 智慧環境、智慧市民、智慧生活及智慧政府。展覽 在2017年1月31日結束，而整個系列的圓桌會議 及講座有來自本地及維也納的專家及有相關經驗人士 參與其中。
21 Community Engagement 社區參與 Hong Kong-European Union School e-Learning Project "Green Living and Sustainability in the Community" 2016 香港一歐洲網上互動學習計劃「綠色生活及可持績發展社區」2016 The Hong Kong-European Union School e-Learning Project "Green Living and Sustainability in the Community11 2016 was jointly organised by European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong and the European Studies Programme of the HKBU. Schools from Hong Kong, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain took part in this project. Between March and June 2016, the project connected over 100 students across communities by way of exchanging ideas, and collaborating through research on topics such as "Plastics & Recycling", "Fashion: Labour & Toxic Issues", "City: Urban Life & Green City" and "Food: Production & Consumption", thus heightening their awareness of sustainability. The winner of the "Best Sustainable Community Project" saw a successful collaboration of students from S.K.H. Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School and Gymnasium Oberalster of Hamburg, Germany. With the support from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin, the winners will go for a field trip to their partners1 country. This project is supported by the Institute of English Studies, Leuphana University, Luneburg, Germany, Friends of the Earth Hong Kong, Green Sense, Sustainable Ecological Ethical Development Foundation, World Green Organisation, and World Wide Fund Hong Kong. S 港一歐洲網上互動學習計劃「綠色生活及可持續發展社區」2016由香港 歐盟學術計劃及香港浸會大學歐洲研究課程合辦。在2016年3月至6月 期間，逾百名來自香港、德國、荷蘭及西班牙的優秀學生參與計劃。經過交流和 合作，各小組探討有關塑膠回收、時裝城市生活及食物等議題。最後，由香港 聖公會林護紀念中學及德國漢堡Gymnasium Oberalster組成的組別奪得「最佳可 持續社區專題研習」獎， 在香港駐布魯塞爾經濟貿易辦事處以及香港駐柏林辦事處慷慨資助下，得獎學生 將獲得遊學機會。是次計劃由以下組織支持：德國呂納堡大學英國研究學院、香 港地球之友'環保觸覺^香港有機生活發展基金'世界綠色組織及世界自然基金 會（香港分會）。 The Prize Giving Ceremony of We Project was held on 20 October 2016 at HKBU. 計劃的預獎禮在2016年10月20日假香港浸會大學舉行。
22 Achievements 傑出成就 Staff 教職員 Dr. Kwong Chi Man Received Best Paper Award from an International Journal 鄺智文博士獲國際期刊頒發 最佳創新研究論文獎 Dr. Kwong Chi Man, Assistant Professor, Department of History, was awarded the Early-Career Prize for the best original research article by Brill and the Bibliographical Committee of the International Bibliography of Military History. His article, entitled "'They Are a Little Afraid of the British Admiral': The China Station of the Royal Navy during the First Sino-Japanese War, 1894-1895", discussed the role of the British Royal Navy during the conflict. 史系助理教授鄺智文博士獲國際期刊何8m滅加a/ Bibliography of M帆"H視o/y頒發青年學者最佳創新研究論文獎。鄺博士的 獲獎論文題爲「他們對英國海軍將領頗為畏懼：第一次中日戰爭中的英國 皇家海軍中國艦隊(1894-1895)」，闡釋英國皇家海軍於第一次中日戰爭中 的角色。。 Prof. Frank Fu Won Best Paper Award at International Conference 傅浩堅教授在國際會議上獲得 最佳論文獎 Prof. Frank Fu, Chair Professor of Physical Education Department, and Director of Dr. Stephen Hui Research Centre for Physical Recreation and Wellness won the Best Paper Award (second prize) at the China Market International Conference on 10 July 2016. The award-winning paper, entitled "Distance of Similarity: Assessing Mimic Product from Authentic Brand on Enculturation Conformance", is a collaborative effort between Prof. Fu, Dr. David Pan and Prof. Margaret Young of Texas Woman's University, and Dr. Alan Pan of University of North Texas in the US. 因育學系講座教授及許士芬博士體康研究中心主任傅浩堅教授於2016 唱年7月10日舉行的中國市場營銷國際學術年會中，獲頒最佳論文 (二等)獎,該論文以 Distance of Similarity: Assessing Mimic Product from Authentic Brand on Enculturation Conformance 為題，與來自美國德州女子大 學的David Pan博士、Margaret Young教授及北德州大學的Alan Pan博士聯合 撰寫。① Prof. Atara Sivan's Leading Role in an Academic Journal Won International Recognition 蘇秀冠教授領導學術期刊成就 獲國際肯定 World Leisure Journal (WLJ), an international academic journal on leisure studies led by Prof. Atara Sivan, Head of the Education Studies Department, was accepted into Scopus, one of the world's largest abstract and citation databases of peer-reviewed scientific journals and other literature. 23 Achievements傑出成就 Students and Alumni 學生及校友 China Studies Student Grabbed Gold Medal at World Open Boccia and Named Top 10 Regeneration Warrior 中國研究同學勇奪世界硬地滾球竇金牌及 榮膺年度十大再生勇士 Miss Ho Yuen Kei (Year 3, China Studies -Sociology) won a gold medal in the BC3 Individual Event of the Fazaa World Open Boccia Competition - Dubai 2016 in May 2016. She was also selected by the Regeneration Society as one of the Regeneration Warriors 2015-16 in September 2016, for her unswerving positive attitude and determination to live a full life despite her severe illness. Her inspiring story has raised public concern and support for people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. The annual award is jointly organised by Hang Seng Bank and Regeneration Society to recognise people with chronic diseases who exhibit persistence, positive attitude and unquenchable vitality in overcoming hardships and who, by doing so, have set good examples which encourage the community and others with disabilities to live a fruitful life.⑥ 中國研究一社會學專業三年級的何宛淇同學於2016年5月在杜拜舉行的 U 硬地滾球世界公開賽中，勇奪BC3個人賽冠軍。此外，何同學於9月 獲再生會選為2015-2016年度十大再生勇士，表揚她以積極抗病的經歷和堅 毅奮鬥的精神，促進大眾對長期病患者和殘疾人士的關注和支持。這項年度獎 項由恒生銀行與再生會合辦，旨在表揚長期病患者克服困苦的奮鬥精神'積極 態度和卓越生命力，激勵社會人士與其他殘疾人士積極自强。 Physical Education Students Shone at World University Woodball Championship 體育學系學生揚威世界大學生活木球錦標賽 Mr. Lau Yu Ki (Year 5) and Miss Liu Tsz Yan (Year 2) of the Physical Education and Recreation Management Programme won a gold medal in the Men's Team Stroke Event, and two bronze medals in the Women's Team Stroke Event and the Women's Single Fairway Event, respectively, at the World University Woodball Championship 2016 in Taipei on 21-26 October 2016. 體育及康樂管理五年級的劉 晅于祺同學及二年級的廖芷 茵同學於2016年10月21至26 日在台北舉行的世界大學生活木 球錦標賽中取得佳績，分別取得 男子團體桿數賽金牌，以及女子 團體桿數賽及女子單打球道賽兩 面銅牌。⑥ Miss Liu Tsz Yan廖芷茵同學 Physical Education Student Obtained Silver Medal at the World Hung Kuen Competition 體育學系學生奪得世界洪拳 大寶銀牌 Miss Veronika Partikova, PhD student of the Department of Physical Education, obtained a silver medal in the bare-hands category at the 2nd World Hung Kuen Competition in Foshan, China on 19-20 November 2016. The Competition is a world level kung fu (traditional wushu) with around 300 athletes from over 10 countries. 育學系博士研究生Veronika Partikova小姐在2016 唱年11月19至20日於中國佛山舉行的第二屆世界 洪拳大賽中獲得了女子成人組拳術套路（一般洪拳項目） 銀牌。賽事是一項世界級的傳統武術比賽，有超過300名 來自世界各地10多個國家的選手參賽。 Geography Student Shone at Taiwan Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Competition 地理系學生揚威台灣大專院校 跆拳道錦標賽 iss Cheng She Wan (Year 4, Geography) won the first runner-up in the Female Yellow Belt Group at the Taiwan Hung Kuang Cup Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Competition held on 19 March 2016. She was also awarded the overall championship in the Female Open Group and first runner-up in the General Group with her teammates. 理系四年級的鄭舒允同學於2016年 3月19日舉行的台灣弘 光盃大專院校跆拳道錦標 賽中，導得女子黃帶組亞 軍，她更與隊友奪得女子 公開組全場總冠軍及一般 組亞軍。
24 Achievements 傑出成就 Students Won Championship of Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run for Four Consecutive Years 學生連績四年勇奪健康體適能挑戰資冠軍 A team of HKBU students won the championship at the Health Fitness Challenge on 10 January 2016, marking the fourth consecutive year the team has won the award. The team comprised three Physical Education and Recreation Management students, Mr. So Man Ho (Year 4), Miss Wong Tsz Yan (Year 3) and Mr. Lau Tsun Ling (Year 2), and Miss Lee Yan Yee (Year 2, Sport and Recreation Leadership). The Challenge is an annual event organised by the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong. The Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run is divided into different categories. 香港浸會大學學生在健康體適能挑戰賽中，連續四年取得大專組冠軍。體 育及康樂管理四年級的蘇文浩同學、三年級黃芷錮同學、二年級劉峻峻 同學和運動及康樂領袖二年級的李欣績同學於2016年1月10日舉行的賽事中， 奪得大專組冠軍。比賽由中國香港體適能總會主辦，賽式為漸進式心肺耐力跑， 並分為不同組別。 Social Work Student Awarded the Remarkable Youth Award by the Outstanding Youth Commendation Scheme 社工系學生獲優秀青年嘉許計副優異獎 Miss Huang Xuemei (Year 3, Social WoK was awarded the Remarkable Youth Award (Open Category - Kwun Tong) at the Outstanding Youth Commendation Scheme co-organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth for her commendable community service on 12 March 2016. She has been taking part in youth exchange programmes and national education activities since she was in secondary school. She has also continuously taken part in voluntary services for the past eight years, wholeheartedly serving individuals from the underprivileged strata and people in need. 社會工作系三年級的黃雪梅同學憑著傑出社區服務表現，於2016年3月12日獲得由民政事務局與 硬B青年事務委員會舉辦的「優秀青年嘉許計劃」的公開組「優異獎」（觀塘）。她自中學開始參加青 年交流計劃和國情教育活動，更於過去八年持續參與義工服務，用心關懷弱勢社群。 Miss Huang Xuemei (back row, righ^ 黄雪梅同學(後排右) 1st Hong Kong (Asia) Youth Association Intervarsity Debate Competition 第一屆香港亞洲青年協會大專院校辯論簣 The HKBU Chinese debating team excelled in the first intervarsity debate competition organised by the Hong Kong (Asia) Youth Association Limited on 24 January 2016. Competing against nine other local tertiary institutions, the team performed brilliantly with its strong team spirit and won the championship after three vigorous rounds. Team member Mr. Bobby Yau (Year 2, China Studies 一 Geography) and Mr. Wong Man Lung (Year 1, China Studies) were named Best Debater in different rounds of the contest. 香港浸會大學中文辯論隊於2016年1月24日參加由香港亞洲青年協 會主辦的第一屆全港大專院校辯論比賽『香港亞青盃」，經過三回 合的激戰後，憑著傑出表現和團體合作精神，成功從九間本地大專院校中 脱穎而出，勇奪冠軍寶座，其中中國研究一地理二年級的游正僖同學和中 國研究一年級的王文龍同學分別榮膺「最佳辯論員」。
25 Achievements 傑出成就 Physical Education Student Broke Four Records in Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships 體育學系學生打破香港健力錦標賽四項紀錄 Miss Wong Man Ting (Year 4, Physical Education and Recreation Management) LXXJ won the champion in the female junior group at the Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships 2016 and broke four records - Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift in the Female 57 kg Junior Group, and Squat in the Female Open Group organised by the Hong Kong Weightlifting and Powerlifting Association on 2 April 2016. 體育及康樂管理四年級的黃敏婷同學在香港健力舉重協會於2016年4月2 唱日主辦的香港健力锦標賽2016中打破四項紀錄，包括女子57公斤青年組 賽事的蹲舉、臥推舉及硬舉項目，以及女子公開組的蹲舉，她更勇奪女子青年組 總冠軍。② Graduate Awarded Hong Kong Scholarships for Excellence 畢業生獲香港卓越獎學金 Mr. Carson Poon (2015 Graduate, Geography and Liberal Studies Teaching) was selected as awardee of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES) in August 2016. Honoured with the title of "Hong Kong Scholar", he will pursue postgraduate studies overseas. Offered by the HKSAR government, the HKSES supports local students who seek to pursue studies in world-renowned universities outside of Hong Kong.
